Dhamma for Lifestyle (13)
Similes of Metta
One cannot dig out the whole earth to disappear with a grubbing hoe. Likewise, one cannot deduct the loving kindness (Metta) of the person who developed it by any kinds of words.
One cannot burn the great river to become hot with a torch as there are a lot of water in it. Similarly, one cannot lessen the loving kindness of the person who nurtured it with any kinds of words.
One cannot draw a picture in the space. Likewise, picture of anger (Dosa) cannot be drawn in the mind of the person who developed the loving kindness (Metta).
These are the similes of Metta given by the Buddha.
Reference: Nandamalarbhivamsa, Dr Ashin. Always use Metta Heart.
