Dhamma for Lifestyle (3)

The Benefits of Firm Belief in the Three Refuges

The Saranagon is suitable for everybody, even young children. Without cost and fatigue one can have firm belief in the Three Gems.

What is the firm belief in Saranagon?

Anyone who has done one of the following fours must be noted to have firm belief in the Three Gems. Those are:

(1) Conferring oneself with faith to the Three Gems viz the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha,
(2) Relying on the Triple Gems,
(3) Adoption as disciple of the Three Refuges,
(4) Doing obeisance to the Three Gems.

The three refuges are the most worldly exalted ones; nothing more than those. One's sacrifice for these sacrosanct three gems, is very highly remarkable benefit. The Buddha expounded this fact in Pali of Anguttara Nikaya. With firm belief in triple gems, offering the body of oneself gain a great deal of advantages.

According to the Pali “Him Satiti Saranam”, it is known as Saranagon because of oppressing, persecuting and ruin. On what things do they act? The danger, the enemy, the fear, the fright, the suffering of body and mind, casting into four apayas are oppressed and persecuted. It means one who has firm belief in Saranagon forbade the above ruin that would be come down.
