Dhamma for Lifestyle (6)

In a Moment of Life

Puthujjana do not realize that life is only a moment. Influence by Tanha, they do whatever they desired as if they are immortals. However, when they are about to die because of serious illnesses or due life span, they wish to be alive and live longer. Then only they come to notice that they have not much time left to live and that one's life is very short.

One day in Catumaharajika Deva Realm is equivalent to fifty years in human world. In Catumaharajika's word, those who are born to day will die tomorrow. When comparing to Tavatimsa Deva Realm, one hundred years of human life is a day in it. That means, born and die in the same day in accordance with this Deva Realm. It is like a day trip to human realm. As for Upper Deva Realms, human life is just a second for them. Whereas in Brahma Realm, it lasts only a water bubble up of time.

Even if one's life is eighty or one hundred years, it is still just a moment. So, one should value a day as one's whole life and should meet the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha first every day before doing anything.

Human life is heartening only because of Buddha Sasana. Lord Buddha said that living a day practising insight knowledge is more noble than living one hundred years without doing so. Therefore, what will you do?

Owing to my deeds of merit, may I always be free from the four Apayas (states of loss), the three kappas, the eight Atthakkhanas (wrongful locations), the five Veras (adversaries), the four Vipattis (deficiencies), the five Byasanas (misfortunes); and may I ultimately attain Magga, Phala and Nibbana!
Okasa = asking for permission.
