တံပူ /dabu/n twig frayed at one end to clean the teeth. See also ဒန္ပူ.
တံကဲ /dage:/n ornamental backdrop of a throne. (See illus at ပလႅင္)
တံခြန္တိုင္ /dagun dain/n flagmast; flagstaff (in pagodas and monastery compounds).
တက္ကပ္ /te' ka'/

n 1 epoch in which the life span of human beings is said to increase from a range of ten to an infinite number of years. 2 age of progress. Cf ဆုတ္ကပ္.

တကၠတြန္း /te' kadun:/n non-Buddhist ascetic who goes about unclad. [Pali တကၠ+ဒြႏၵ]
တကၠေဗဒ /te' ka. bei da./ n [obs] logic (science of reasoning). [Pali တကၠ+ေဗဒ]
တကၠသိုလ္ /te' kathou/ n institute of higher learning university. [Pali တကၠသိလာ]
ေတာက္ေလာင္ /tau' laun/ v be ablaze; be aflame.
တင္ပါ /tin ba/ n yes; an afffirmative response used when speaking to monks. Also တင္ပါ့.
တင္ေလွ်ာက္ /tin shau'/ v (to one's superious- usually a monk or king) relate.
တင္ပ်ဉ္ေခြ /tin bjin khwei/ v sit cross-legged.
တခၤဏုပၸတၱိဉာဏ္ /tin khanou' pa' ti. njan/ n spontaneous insight; wit. [Pali တခၤဏုပၸတၱိ+ဉာဏ္]
တင့္ /tin./ adj 1 comely; becoming. 2 proper; befitting.
တင့္တယ္ /tin. de/ adj Same as တင့္ adj.

ေတာထြက္ /to: htwe'/

v retire to the jungle as a recluse. /to: dwe'/ n person who has entered monkhood late in life. cf ငယ္ျဖဴ.

ေတာဖိတ္ေန႔ /to: bei' nei./ n the day which is two days prior to the sabbath day. See also အဖိတ္ေန႔.
ေတာရေက်ာင္း /to: ja. gjaun:/ n monastery situated far from lay habitat.

part 1 affix denoting power, sacredness, reverence or royalty (as in ဓာတ္ ~ ၊ ဆရာ ~ ၊ ႏုိင္ငံ ~ ၊ ~ ဝင္၊...)

ေတာ္ေလးဝ /to lei: wa./

n the four paragons of womanhood; namely (i) အမရာ wife of the Bodhisattva during his existence as the wise warrior king မေဟာသဓာ and who herself was renowned for her perspicacity, courage and integrity; (ii) စႏၵကိႏၷရီ wife of the Bodhisattva during his in carnation as စႏၵကိႏၷရာ (see also ကိႏၷရာ) celebrated for her unwavering fidelity to her husband even after king ျဗဟၼဒတ္ slew her husband and offered to make her his queen; (iii) မဒၵီေဒဝီ the gentle wife of the Bodhisattva during his incarnation as king ေဝဿႏၲရာ who after her husband had to abdicate the throne for his untrammeled charity, dutifully shared his trials and tribulations; and (iv) သမ႓ဴလ loyal wife of the Bodhisattva during his incarnation as the leper prince ေသာတၳိေသန.

Anna hi labhupanisa, anna nibbanagamini;
evametam abhinnaya, bhikkhu Buddhassa savako;

75: Indeed, the path that leads to worldly gain is one and the Path that leads to Nibbana is another. Fully comprehending this, the bhikkhu, the disciple of the Buddha, should not take delight in worldly gain and honour, but devote himself to solitude, detachment and the realization of Nibbana.

73: The foolish bhikkhu desires praise for qualities he does not have, precedence among bhikkhus, authority in the monasteries, and veneration from those unrelated to him.
74: "Let both laymen and bhikkhus think that things are done because of me; let them obey me in all matters, great and small." Such being the thoughts of the fool, his greed and his pride grow.

Dhamma for Lifestyle (23)

Anger
 
Everyone has more or less anger and is expressed in different ways. Some people are easily angered, but it disappears quickly and are quite normal after that.

For some people, when they get angry, they develop feelings of hatred and desire for revenge. They take it in and hold onto it until they have a chance to get their revenge. Some people hold onto the anger and never forget it. Whenever they get angry, they add it to their stored anger of the past, and hold onto it and mull over it again, tying their anger fast, all the big and small angers, thinking repeatedly about them.

The expression of anger, is like steam flowing out of a boiling kettle. Steam comes from heat. Water is the anger that contain hatred. Heat is the conditions that fashion the anger. Steam is the emotion of anger. If there is no reaction to heat, steam does not arise. If we dislike the conditions for anger, then, we will not be angry. If we cannot bear the heat, we should look for a way to release it.

A kettle has a hole to let the steam out, but, if not, the pressure would build up and eventually explode. Similarly, if we are angry, we should look for a way to release it.

Anger, whether it is small or great, long lasting or not, always destroys happiness and health. It is harmful both to you and those around you. The Buddha said that, those who kill anger live happily and will not be sad.

Mindfulness and wisdom can cut off and dig out the root of anger. And so, we should try our best to have them.

Conditions For Success  
For achieving material success and fame, four conditions are necessary. When these four conditions are present, success in terms of prosperity, fame and following is attained within a short period of time.
The four conditions are:
1. living in a place which is favourable for the attainment of prosperity and merit;
2. association with wise and noble persons;
3. living an honest life and striving for self improvement;
4. having accumulated good deeds done previously.
Of these, the last condition is vital because being endowed with it will contribute towards fulfilment of the remaining conditions.

Alive and Death with Difficulties

People have to face six difficulties when they are alive. For them:

Non valuable Kilesa are difficult to discard.
Invisible ten strings (ten Samyojana) are difficult to untie.
Smokeless eleven Raga fires are difficult to extinguish.
Nibbana which is not a far journey is difficult to reach.
Properties without owner (Saddha, Sila, Suta, Caga, Panna, Hiri, Ottapa_ the seven properties of a virtuous person) are difficult to find.
Pregnant man is difficult to give birth.

Also, people die with six difficulties. They will:

Die pennyless however they are rich.
Die without strength however they are as strong as elephant.
Starve and die however they can eat a lot.
Die dumb however they are a good speaker.
Die ugly however they are as pretty as a celestial being.
Be hated and die however they have many loved ones.

The Blessed One is:
[1] Arahaṃ _ indeed worthy,
[2] Sammāsambuddho _ fully self-enlightened,
[3] Vijjācaraṇasampanno _ perfect in knowledge and virtues,
[4] Sugato _ well-gone or well-spoken,
[5] Lokavidū _ knower of the worlds,
[6] Anuttaro purisa dammasārathi _ incomparable in taming beings,
[7] Satthā devamanussānaṃ _ the teacher of men, devas and brahmas,
